Where: Houston Marriott Sugarland, 16090 City Walk, Sugar Land, TX, 77479, 281/ 275-8400

What to Expect: Meeting friends, shopping with the stitching-relating vendors, weekend get-away, stitching time, door prizes, item exchange games.

Exchange Game
Meet new friends by playing a game where we exchange stitched Christmas Ornaments. Stitch and finish an ornament and then wrap it with a note saying who stitched it. We will play a game where the ornaments will be mixed up and passed around so that everyone receives a new ornament in exchange for the one they gave. Open your exchange gift and seek out the stitcher with your new conversation starter.

Pass the Stash
Got stuff in your stash that you know you’ll never get to but would love to pass on to another stitcher who might like it? There will be a Pass the Stash table available for you to place your items and where all attendees can select from your donations. Please come by the table at the conclusion of the retreat to gather your unclaimed items, or they become the property of The Stitching Bee Retreat.

What to bring
We want you to be comfortable. Consider bringing your stitching lamps and battery pack (extension cords are not allowed), magnification, your current Work In Progress (WIP), drinking tumblers with lids, a light wrap in case you get cool, and an outlook for fun and stitching.

Classes

Add On: Introduction to Peyote Beading (8:00 AM – 12:00 PM) Session 1

The amazing Bobbi Norris, a beading legend here in Texas, is coming out of retirement to teach us this adorable “Paper Scissor Fob” on Friday, July 12th from 8:30 am to noon. How cute is this?

We all know what happens to people who use our embroidery scissors on paper, right? This adorable scissor fob will save all your relationships by clearly marking scissors that are for everyone’s use! This scissor fob class will be taught using basic flat peyote. Students will learn how to count in flat peyote and acquire other flat peyote skills as well. The complete kit is provided with the class. The pencil is also included in the kit, but will not necessarily be taught.

It is highly recommended that students bring a magnet board with a line-minder to the class. We hope to see you!

Add On: Introduction to Peyote Beading (1:00 PM – 5:00 PM) Session 2

You’ll be buzzing to take the class to make this adorable limited-edition needle case! Designed especially for The Stitching Bee Retreat (Sugar Land location ONLY), we think it’s the bee’s knees. If you don’t like the idea of using a needle case, you can use it as an ornament with a little note inside for your honey. In this class, you’ll learn how to add and end thread, how to read a bead chart/pattern, and how to “step-up”. You’ll also learn how to personalize it…because, while there are many bees in the hive, there’s no bee exactly like YOU.

The kit includes everything needed to create the needle case: bead chart/pattern, instructions, Miyuke Delica beads, empty bead tube, needle, thread, and embellishments.

Students should bring scissors and, if needed: a small eye needle threader, light, and magnifier. A magnet board with straight-line minder magnets is recommended by the teacher (Loran board or similar project). You’re welcome to bring your favorite needles and thread if you choose….BEE you!
